Palembang (6) Durian all the way!

Durian all the way!

Most of Indonesian peoples like to eat durians. This fruit has a very strong fragrance, and also very strong taste. And because of that, based on my experience, when i tried to make my foreign friend ate those durians, they didn't like it. Japanese, Koreans, and Germans didn't like it so much! :D

Durians!

Since we came to Sumatra's, where durians is more famous in here, we must be regret if we don't try it. We found this durians market by accident, actually, when we were a little lost in our way to came back to our hotel, hehehe.. Durians here is cheaper than in Java, you can have 4 of them for 55k rupiahs.. and do you know what?if we eat durians too much, we can have a headache and maybe we can drunk, :p and for always, Durians is really prohibited for pregnant womans, so be careful, mem!

I dedicated this blog to my travel-mate who spend all night going all around Palembang with me, capture and taste so many things with lot of laugh. Thanks guys!

Palembang (5) Another South Sumatra Culinary

Pindang patin is superb! They say that patin fish, or catfish, that they use in this dish is taken from Musi river, so the fish is very fresh. If you look at the soup, it has red color but it's not spicy at all. If you ever taste thailand dish 'tom yam', it similar to that. A little bit sour, little spicy, but very delicious. I try this in Musi Rawas restaurant, located in Angkatan 45 street in Palembang. Beside catfish, you can find a prawn pindang in here. You can have fish pindang for around 30k rupiah and prawn pindang for 65k (i forget the exact price).

Another signature dish from Sumatran's is called Tampoyak. Tampoyak is made from fermented Durian, so it has a real strong smell, and like any other fermented food, it has very sour and also spicy taste. Actually I don't really like this since this is my first time eating Tampoyak, but if you want to try, go ahead :D

Besides all of the dish that i told you before in this blog and my previous blog, my most favorite dish is called Mie Celor. unfortunatelly, i forget to take the picture of that dish because i really enjoy the taste! haha.. That dish itself consist of white noodle, bean sprouts, celery, and the soups is made from milk (or coconut milk? i'm not sure..) and has a little spicy taste. VERY DELICIOUS! :D

Palembang (4) Pempek and its derivation

Palembang = Pempek

various type of pempek

yup, if you hear the name palembang, you must be thinking about this kind of food. i don't know whether if this food is originally from here, but pempek is really famous in this city.

before i went to palembang last week, i don't know that pempek has various type. i only know that pempek is made from fish mix with flour, and then you fried it and eat it with sauce made from vinegar and brown sugar. but in here, you can eat pempek without fried with so many shapes as you can see in the picture above. the long one called lenjer, and the one that has egg inside it called kapal selam.

beside that, there still many dish that made from fish. i think, these dish made from similar dough with pempek, but the presentation is different. named tekwan, the dish which has a lighter taste of fish dough and served with soup. if you put that dough in the tofu, then the named of the dish became model. haha..

model
but rather than eating pempek, model and tekwan, i prefer this lenggang. lenggang actually made from sliced lenjer, fried with egg like an omelet. you eat this with the vinegar souce too. sooo tasty :9

lenggang
there's so many pempek store in palembang. the most famous one is Candy, which has many branch. But my friend said that Beringin store was more delicious, but also more expensive, hehe..

if you don't eat pempek, you don't count as coming to palembang then, hehe..
